Comments:
Due to the over-harvesting of Cypress, it has become a protected species and can only be cut in most areas by strictly regulated permit. I have very limited number of stock pieces of this prize carving wood, with no assurance of replacing my supply once it is exhausted. I have acquired the few pieces I have, from people I have come to know as I have traveled the United States. I use the wood with much careful thought to these factors and only use it where I feel its beauty will be allowed to have the ultimate representation within the form. The title of the piece in part recognizes the all too prevalent nature of man to strip the earth of its resources with little reguard to the preservation of its beauty. The visual has an element of sadness as the for bends as if yielding to the force of gravity not unlike a flower in need of water. It appears to look backward with regret as if it remembers a better time.
