This is the largest of this genre (cigar store Indian) I have done.
Caught up in the nostalgia of the period this piece represents, I was driven to carve one of my own. For many years it was my singular goal. After carving several in relief
when I was first learning how to carve in the early seventies I attempted my first one in the round, in 1975. Carved from a single piece of poplar, bark of the original
tree can still be seen on the corners of the base at the back. This piece is both stained and painted to replicate a period piece conjuring a turn of the century (1800-1900) feeling.
Cannot be shipped by conventional means.
