Standing defiant against adversity is synonymous with the western persona.
Such is the symbolism which is pursued in the image of "Borderland". Having had the good fortune in my travels to make the drive from Brownsville, Texas to Yuma, Arizona I was awe struck by the beauty of the Rio Grande River as it traverses this stark near desert landscape. You soon realize little has changed over time in this "off the beaten track" region of the world, and for brief moments you can seemingly sense the vulnerability of an individual attempting to carve a living from such a harsh unrelenting landform. Perhaps the most impressive point which exuded this feeling was at Langtry, Texas the remnant town made famous by Judge Roy Bean, "Law West of the Pecos". To this individual and his kindred, I dedicate "Borderland". Lean and sinewy like the land stands this figure, typifying the tenacity that would be required of a person to survive in such an inimical place. This limited edition is number 3 of 24. This edition has been simulated with the look and feel of a bronze sculpture using real copper cladding.
